--In this poem I wanted to capture the desperation of trying to be a good Christian while dealing with immense feelings of anxiety, depression and unworthiness. I was raised in a legalistic, evangelical Christian church that has left a myriad of scars I’m still healing from. I do still identify with the God and Jesus of the Bible but no longer in the toxic fear and othering way I was indoctrinated with as a child. Finding my way forward has been a messy journey. I do hope one day I’ll be told that I did well.
