X Men
Those were the exact words Douglas told Silas.
They sat across from each other. Two grown men. Two cups of coffee. One broken moment.
Silas looked exhausted.
“I had an argument with Amara,” he said quietly.
Douglas smirked. “And you want to apologize?”
Silas nodded.
Douglas leaned forward and said something Silas did not expect.
“Don’t.”
Silas frowned. “Don’t?”
Douglas shook his head slowly. “If you apologize now, she’ll know her silence controls you. Withdraw instead. Don’t chase her. Don’t beg. Let her feel your absence. She’ll come around.”
Silas went quiet.
It sounded logical. Powerful, Evien.
“Women respect strength,” Douglas continued. “Not submission.”
Silas went home that day determined to do exactly that.
He stopped explaining himself.
Stopped checking on her.
Stopped trying.
He became calm. Distant. Untouchable.
And it worked.
She stopped complaining.
Stopped asking questions.
Stopped arguing.
Peace.
Or so he thought.
Until one night, she didn’t wait up for him.
Didn’t ask where he was.
Didn’t even look at him when he entered.
Weeks passed.
She became polite.
Cold.
Independent.
One evening, she said the words he never expected.
“I’ve learned how not to need you.”
That was the day Silas understood the truth Douglas never told him.
Withdrawal doesn’t always create respect.
Sometimes…
It creates distance.
Sometimes…
It teaches your partner how to live without you.
The next morning, Silas went back to Douglas.
“You told me not to apologize,” he said.
Douglas looked at him with tired eyes.
“I was wrong.”
Silas blinked.
Douglas continued:
“My ego won the argument.”
“But my marriage lost the war.”
Silence filled the space between them.
Then Douglas said something every married person needs to hear:
“Apologizing doesn’t make you weak.”
“It proves you value the relationship more than your pride.”
Some people are not looking for domination.
They are looking for consideration.
Not control.

But care.
Not silence.
But reassurance.
Sometimes, the strongest words a man can say are simply:
“I’m sorry.”
Not because he is weak.
But because he is wise enough to protect what matters. ❤️
