What do we do when someone is wrong? - Sawabona Shikoba!
Greetings and #freecompliments to all. The human being is constantly evolving and not only at a physiological level, but at a deeper level. In my case I consider that when a day goes by and I haven't learned something new, well for me that day is a lost day. Luckily today was not a wasted day, as I learned about one of the most beautiful customs on record. The "Sawabona Shikoba!".
It turns out that in the southern part of Africa there is a tribe called Babemba which has a peculiar way of greeting each other. For them the good morning would be something like "Shiwabona" and their immediate response would be "Shikoba". And so far there is nothing strange, but what would you think if I told you that "Sawabona" means "I respect you, I value you and you are important to me" and therefore "Shikoba" means "so...I am good and I exist for you".
If that were just the story anyone would say that it is something normal and not a big deal, but this is where the story gets interesting. It turns out that these words through their meaning give rise to a ritual that is both interesting and beautiful. What happens is that, in this tribe, if someone makes a mistake, makes a mistake or does something wrong, they are taken to the center of the village and surrounded by all the villagers. For two days a kind of ceremony takes place in which everyone in the tribe tells the person who made the mistake all the good things he has done, reminding him that there is a lot of goodness in his heart.
The tribe apparently holds the belief that all human beings come into the world full of goodness and purity. They believe that we are born with the sole purpose of spreading love and peace and happiness to every corner of this earth, but that sometimes in the pursuit of that purpose people may make mistakes. In the eyes of this community, those mistakes and errors are a sign of help and a need for help. So they gather everything to help that person to return to the right path and reconnect with their true nature. And that is how for two days the villagers shout at the top of their lungs "Sawabona" to which the person responds "Shikoba".
In general terms, it would be feasible to consider that this ritual technique would be a total atonement, but unfortunately our modern society has reached such points in which atrocious acts are committed daily that really do not deserve vindication. So I ask you, my friend reader, what do you think of this curious custom?
