Actifit report for Tuesday

As I've told you before, I like going to a supermarket in a quiet suburb to get my favorite energy drinks called 9 and Fuerza. This time I also took my groceries on a short tourist trip, in order to find a route to the polder Rijnenburg (the heart-shaped area on the left on the map below). Which is not obvious, since there are two highways and a shipping canal in the way.

As usual, my cycling didn't count for a lot of steps. And I forgot to push the start button in Strava again, so it starts from when I left the supermarket. By then it was already dark, but I could still take a nice picture in a park with an artificial hill.

The Rijnenburg polder has been annexed by the city of Utrecht. There are plans to build an 'energy park' with windmills there, and in the long term it could be used for luxury housing. I don't want to romanticize farm life, but I was annoyed when a city slicker called the polder 'empty'.

Of course there are already people living and working there. Working pretty hard I suspect. What I found was a nice lane lined with old trees, where farms were located right next to each other and long, narrow fields stretched to the horizon.

When I went back, the moon was in the east, glowing orange like the streetlights, since some of the light passed through the atmosphere twice, shortly after sunset.

I also found a road maintenance contractor's traffic sign storage. It's not just dairy farms here - there's also room for other businesses that require space or are related to animals.

Conclusion: my reconnaissance mission was successful. I'll come back later during daylight, and I'll ride through the entire polder then.
