Insights From ECW Referee John Finegan
John Finegan served as pro wrestling referee for decades. He also was with ECW from the very first show (Market Street Mayhem, February 25 1992) all the way to the company's final show in Arkansas on January 13, 2001. In the above video he talks about being in the ring with Terry Funk, Sabu, Abdullah The Butcher and more.
He discussed the spontaneous nature of the crowds in all ECW venues. John discusses his working with Shane Douglas + working the RVD-Jerry Lynn matches as well as Tommy Dreamer-Raven, including his being the referee where Dreamer finally pinned Raven at Wrestlepalooza 1997 in the ECW Arena.
He also was the referee for the 2006 ECW One Night Stand main event with RVD and John Cena. Finally, he discussed how passionate the ECW fan base was including how they often tailgated outside the building as early as 10:00 in the morning before a show which started at 7 or 8 that evening.
