My otherworld
My friend Lisa called me up saying our old classmates wanted to go swimming and have a nice time. Lisa chuckled on the phone and said, “you know he'll be there.”
I'm usually so tensed around him. His ability to walk into a room and make the room his. The leader of a pack of friends, smart and silly. What more could a girl ask for?
But argh, this feels like a high school reunion. I hate things like that.
I don't like going out. I hate having to prepare— what clothes to wear, makeup— I suck at putting on makeup.
Efforts are nothing when your heart beats for someone. You breathe them. Your heart and your lungs long for this. If I didn't go it would be a great miss.
When I get there, I see everyone. The old couple that don't want to speak to each other. The best friends who won't admit they are lovers. The happy fat boy who is sad inside. The lonely girl at the corner who's insecurities she can't hide. Oh, that's me staring at the dirty water.
My friends are cleaning up the pool. If I get in I'm a fool or at least Lisa's tool.
“Come on,” Lisa says.
“You have to feel the water it is so warm.”
“I'll pass.”
Then he walks in. He's here with the music and a group of his friends. They come in blasting music. A remix by DJ Skillz- what a wonderful world.
The lyrics
“I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do? They really say I love you.”
Then the beat kicks in and everyone goes wild.
He's attention is rare, but he walks up to me and says, “Are you going to swim or what?”
So we are all swimming now aren't we?
Efforts are nothing when your heart beats for someone. You breathe for them. Your heart and your lungs long for this. If I didn't go it would be a great miss.
It's just us in the pool now. Me and a young man I'm in love with. How do I tell him it's way past my bedtime when words can't escape our lips. His touch, his kiss. And to think I was about to stay home.
Tonight we sleep under a blanket of stars. With nothing separating our souls but skin. Tomorrow I will see things as they are.
The smell of commotion hits me. My mind is in two paradigms. One is in trouble, the other is in love.
Shouts come in “wake-up!! Wake-up!! You've burnt the rice.”
How does a short nap turn into a whole day?
Hive has a notification— Lisa is in a relationship.
