The throwaway culture
Sometimes we don't appreciate the good things till we lose them. Sometimes we don't value the people in our lives until they are no more. Sometimes we don't appreciate the good things until we no longer have them. Sometimes we don't value a true friend, good job, family , health etc. until they're gone. Why value more in retrospect than we do in real time. It's often easy to get rid of people, but remember that before we make a decision, we may be throwing away someone that we may need tomorrow.
A few years ago I was heartbroken after I learned of the death of a woman who truly stood like an aunty to us when others didn't care. I kept telling myself I'll find a convenient time to go see her, unfortunately there was no convenient time , for years I kept postponing until the shocking news got to me. I learnt an important lesson that year and the harm procrastination and finding a convenient time brings upon us. "What we have today wouldn't last forever, waiting until tomorrow may be too late". At funerals we are left with regrets and wishes, when we are doomed and lonely, we start to have flashbacks of gems we once held that we lost, and sometimes we show more care when people are no more than when they were alive.

Unfortunately we've lost real friends chasing what's not substantial. We only start to see the gap they left when they're no more. Everyone is relevant, we never get to know them until they are no more. But that's the sad reality of a culture that only sees the worth of things when they are no longer there. So why throw away someone that we may need tomorrow? Or why not appreciate the people we see around us when we still have them? Today may not matter, but tomorrow remains a mystery.
