DuceCrypto's Actifit Report Card: August 9, 2024

Normally, I would say this is very sage advice to "Stay Hydrated" but after enduring the fallout of Tropical Storm Betty for the last 24 hours, the last thing I wanted was more water. Notice my low step count around 6K... sadly, there was no festival to walk around because we got completely washed out Friday.

The trouble started right as the clock struck midnight and the light rain picked up a little bit with increasing winds. After a quick 15-minute walk back to camp, one of the storm cells started whipping things around the camping area.

I made sure to resecure the stakes for our tarp, tent, and canopy, and then lowered the canopy to half height to keep us low and out of the jet stream of the wind.

The worst of the storm came through at 6am again at 2pm. We took inches of rain and 50+ mph winds. By 9am the festival staff had closed all entrances into the camping area and by 1pm declared they would not resume admitting people to camp until Saturday. This meant only those of us who came for early camping on Thursday got in to face the storm on Friday.

I spent most of the day alternating between snuggling in my tent and huddling in my car, while luckily staying mostly dry. Our tent held up extremely well to the storm and took no water, just like at Electric Forest. Countless canopies got blown away and mangled in the high winds and other people who had much less fortunate camping spots downhill were in inches of water.

When the storm finally cleared the last serious cell, it was past 10pm. Thank goodness for my fabulous new rubber rain boots for the occasion. I was stomping and splashing around to show that storm who's boss.

We got word that the afterparty campground stages would be opening around midnight, so even though the festival never opened, some of the artists who were scheduled to play would eventually pop up at the afters to play some of their music. Catch up tomorrow to find out who slayed at the afters and hopefully with the festival grounds open, I'll be able to rack up some higher step counts this weekend. Until next time...
