Old School Days
I know in my last post I promised some more cosplay edits and such but the last two days have been ridiculously exhausting and crazy so I haven't exactly been able to work on any.
But since I like to keep to a post a day I figured I'd drag up some old pictures from my former life which I've never shared anywhere before.
I used to be a forester and a wildland firefighter back in the day. Part of that work involved lighting prescribed burns. That was my favorite part of the job. In fact, the name of my blog is taken from the tool we used to light those fires: drip torches.
These torches are filled with a 1:3 gasoline/Diesel mixture and have a wick at the top to hold the flame. When tilted, the mixture pours out over the wick and carries the fire to the ground.
In order to make sure the fire stays where we want it, we work in fire lines dug by tractor plows.
We also use various hand tools to keep the fire in check.
This burn was done in February of 2010, and if we did it right we burned it again 2-4 years later. I don't remember, honestly, we did so many!
Even though we are used to the heat, we still sometimes get a little too much in the face or other uncovered parts! This is Ken, probably one of the best Rangers we had. He taught me a million things about fire and I am forever in his debt.
Sometimes the fires flash up when they find a big pocket of fuel.
I wish I could get back to that life, but honestly I don't know if I ever will. I hope you enjoyed this journey into my past life as much I did reminiscing. Hopefully tomorrow I will be back with some cosplay stuff!
