Farm Hands

Farm Hands, Acrylic on Paper, 2015

I used two photos, digitally overlapped, to make the scene for this painting. The subjects were children during the Dust Bowl Era. I wish I had made a note of the photographer, I believe it was the same one who took both photos.

I consider this pretty good for the time. The hands and feet were actually not terrible on the girl. The boy could have been better, especially his face. But there is actual emotion conveyed here, perhaps for the first time in anything I did.

Emotions are hard to capture, and the photographer did such a good job getting them that I was able even in my sloppy amateur way to convey them as well.

I’m posting every painting I have ever done from 2014 to the present, the good, the bad, and the ugly. With an occasional photograph or sketch thrown in just to mix things up. Check back daily to see my progression as an “artist”!
