A JOURNEY TO THE CLOUDS
"Rise and Shine Tourists!!"
Alaska's voice could be heard echoing in the hall way, followed by a bang on the door.
"Alaska won't you let us sleep and get ready for the long journey ahead of us."
"Listen, there's one more sunrise view y'all need to see before leaving Indonesia. This is different from any sunrise you've seen. They say if you have a look at it, you will fall in love in 2 days. I'm sure if capt'n wolf was here she will definitely love it."
"Oh my goodness Alaska! She's capt'n Tiger not capt'n Wolf."
We signed out of the hotel, tipped the receptionist $5 and took a $50 ride to UBUD. The sunrise was actually lovely. A great sight to behold.
We ordered for breakfast right in the open space. Their menu was quite enticing so we decided to have an expensive meal of $10 each.
While having breakfast to my greatest surprise i saw Kesla. Kesla was the love of my life a few years back, but we broke up due to certain reasons.
She didn't see me, I wanted to let her slide but then I had no idea Alaska saw her also.
"Yo! Kesla!"
She joined us at our table. We exchanged greetings. I tried keeping it as casual as I could.
"Isn't this great, we are four now. You have your partner and I have my wife right here"
Alaska said winking at me.
"Actually before Alaska called me, I was about to go for a hot air balloon ride. Care to Join me?"
"Nah! I've always been scared of heights. dozie why don't you join her."
"Alright, I will. Sis are you coming?"
"Nope. I'll pass. I'm sure you two have some catching up to do"
"Alright you two stay put, I'll be back in an hour or there about and we can embark on the journey home."
"Not to worry, your sis is in safe hands. Go and have fun."
We paid $300 each for the hot air balloon ride. The Pilot was about to hop in when kesla said.
"I don't need a pilot"
"Kes! What do you mean you don't need a pilot?"
"I want to be up there With you alone. Not to worry I can navigate us to safety."
We paid another $100 for the pilot to agree to let us go alone.
"I hope there's enough fuel here"
"There's enough fuel for a 3 day ride"
The pilot said jokingly.
We hopped in and slowly the balloon left the ground. It was like an elevator in open air.
"Seems you have never been on a hot air balloon ride"
"Is it that obvious? Well over the past few days I have done so many things that I haven't done before."
"It's beautiful isn't it?"
It sure was Very pretty. I took out my phone and took some shots.
"Kes! Why did you want to have me up here alone?"
"I wanted to talk about why you left me."
"We've been through this before."
"No we haven't, you always change the topic when I bring it up."
"Why don't you let go of the past and move on"
"It is pretty easy for you guys to break a girls heart and simply move on. It's not that way with me."
"We couldn't be together Kes! The signs were clear."
"What signs? The handwriting on the wall as you always said."
We were so deep In arguments that we didn't notice that the balloon was going straight up, instead of rotating in circles.
"You couldn't cope with the fact that I worked late. You couldn't cope with the fact that I work on Saturdays and on Sunday I divide my time with you by visiting my parents."
"We could have worked on all these."
"Kes are we supposed to be this high above the ground."
"There you go trying to change the topic"
"I'm being dead serious, check the navigator."
She snapped back to reality. She bent over and the navigator and exclaimed
"Oh jeez!"
"What now?"
The navigator is broken.
"And who's fault is that?"
"There you go being A typical man always trying to put the blame on someone else"
"Well I'm not the one who said I can navigate a damn hot air balloon."
I noticed that our temper was getting a bit high, so I decided to calm things down a bit.
"Aren't we supposed to be talking about solutions, instead of bantering at each other?"
"Not to worry, ones it reaches it's maximum height, it will start going down."
The night clouds were amazing, I have never gotten to see the stars from such a close range. We have been standing for hours, we finally sat down. With her head resting on my chest, she slept off.
DAY 2
I couldn't sleep throughout the night. I watched as the sun rose slowly. From such close range, it was like a flower waking up.
I watched as Rachael Slept in my arms. She was really pretty. Take away her nagging and I could spend my whole life with her.
Few minutes later, she woke up with a smile on her face, because I had made us a little breakfast from what I had in my bag.
"This is romantic" She said
"Definitely not as romantic as breakfast in bed, but it is something."
"Oh C'mon what could be more romantic than breakfast in the clouds."
We both smiled to that
"Do you think we are coming down Yet?"
"When you are this high, it's pretty hard to tell. But I doubt if we reached it's maximum height so soon."
"So soon? We have been going up for 24hours"
"Well some balloons take weeks to attain their Maximum height."
"What??!"
We spent the day reminiscing on the old days. My phone was useless for calls as we couldn't get any network reception from up here. All we could do was take pictures and play music with it. We danced to our favorite #Music. In that moment of dancing our heart out, we forgot that we were soaring higher and higher in a hot air balloon with a broken navigator.
They say time flies when you are having a good time. In no time it was sunset already and the weather changed. It was getting pretty cold and we could see dark clouds forming all around us. With the dark clouds came a heavy downpour.
"Kes! Can these balloons survive heavy rainfall?"
"I have never been under the rain with one before."
"Here have my jacket, you must be pretty cold."
"Who knew that all mighty Dozie could be a gentle man."
Just then there were sparks in the cloud and loud echoes of thunder. With that came a heavy wind that tossed our balloon fiercely.
We held each other as tight as we could.
"Dozie I'm scared"
She said as the wind pulled our balloon so hard, sweeping us off our feet. We fell and coiled up together at a corner. The wind wouldn't let us stay at A place, it tossed us to the other end of the carriage.
"I'm gonna throw up!"
Kesla said as she stood up to catch her breath. Just then the wind pulled her and she fell over board. I grabbed her hand and held her as tight as I could.
"Kes! Don't let go"
"My hands are slipping away. I'm Gonna die"
"You are not dying today! Not on my watch. Hold on tight I'm gonna pull you up."
The wind wasn't making things easy. I was struggling with preventing myself from falling over board, at the same time I was holding Kesla with all my strength trying to pull her up.
"If I keep dragging you I might pull you over and we both die. Maybe I should let go"
"Don't you dare. Hold on tight. Don't let go!!"
We battled for hours and the wind finally subsided and I managed to pull her in. We were both drenched by the rain and the Cold was terrible. We sat at a corner in each other's arm and in no time we fell asleep.
DAY 3
I woke up to see that Rachael Was Up Already.
Good morning handsome. I woke up to some good news.
"Have we landed?"
"No, but we are on our way down. I can feel it"
"I really hope so. It all feels same to me."
"There's a bad news also."
"What now?"
"I think we are out of fuel"
"Holy crap!"
"There's no need of getting all spooky, we would land, just that it will take longer time."
Just then we heard A bird perch on our balloon.
"That must be a good omen, a sign that we are almost down right?"
I asked smiling
"That bird means no good. Shuu Shuu!"
She said as she tried to get the bird off our balloon.
It finally flew off
"Oh no!" Kesla screamed
"What now. Please not another bad news"
"I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but that bird literally did."
"Oh shit! We have A leaking balloon?"
I could feel us going down with full speed
"We are gonna die!!"
I screamed.
"We have to throw off your bag and other unnecessary load, to reduce the force pulling us down."
Doing that didn't have much effect, we were still going down pretty fast. I could see the ground surface clearly now.
"Brace for impact!"
She ran to me, I hugged her real tight. We crashed into A tree, our balloon was stuck in the tree leaving me to fall through the trees till i hit the ground pretty hard.
DAY 4
I Woke Up With My Head Banging! I was bleeding from so many places. I couldn't find Rachael. I managed to stand on my feet. I echoed her name as loud as I could but got no response. I searched for her and finally saw her on the floor at a distance with blood surrounding her. I rushed over to her, she was almost lifeless, but she still had a pulse. I reached for my phone to call for help, but my phone was no where to be found.
I carried her In my arms, walked for what seemed like forever before I made it out of the forest we landed in. I got a lift and took us to the hospital. I contacted Alaska And
