Seriously? - Umm? No thanks

Day 1

Prospect: "Hi I'm looking for some refurbished base units and a couple of Monitors."

Me: "I've got these lovely HP 800 G4 SFF i5 8500 3.0Ghz, 8GB, 1TB HDD, DVD, Eth, Windows 10 Professional, 12 Months HP Onsite Warranty at a really good price. How many are you looking for?

Prospect: "Well, I could do with eight but sadly I only have the budget for three at the minute."

Me: "That's OK, give me a couple of minutes and I'll get a quote over to you."

Day 2

Prospect: "Hi Pete. Bad news I'm afraid, I only want two base units now but I would like three monitors and two wireless keyboard and mice. Can you do me another quote?"

Me: "Sure, no problem."

Prospect: "When could I have everything because I have a new starter next week?"

Me: "I can probably let you have everything tomorrow once your payments cleared."

Prospect: "Brilliant!"

Day 3

Prospect: "Hi Pete. I'm ready to place the order, can I pay by card?"

Me: "Ah, sadly there is nobody in our office we're all working from home. Can you pay by BACS?"

Prospect: "I was hoping to pay by card. I'll have to find out if we can do a transfer."

Me: "Tell you what, let me see if I can get someone to nip into our office and take a card payment. I'll call you back."

10 Minutes later

Me: "OK, I've arranged for someone to go in and take a card payment."

Prospect: "OK, I'll go and get the card and call you back."

20 Minutes later

Prospect: "I'm sorry but they won't let me buy them, there's nothing I can do."

A deal is not a deal until they've signed on the dotted line or handed over the cash. In this instance I have my suspicions that they were just using me to get a cheaper price from somebody else mainly because he had already indicated he had a 'New Starter'that he needed a PC for. There's nothing worse in my job than falling at the last hurdle through no fault of your own.
