Trying out Classic Chess on Lichess (it goes wrong)
If there's one chess format I don't usually play online, it has to be classic. I feel like there's a lot more movement in rapid formats like blitz and others, but this time I decided to make an exception because there are some tournaments with my team.
The thing is, none of my teammates showed up for that 25-minute tournament without an increment. I went alone to represent the team, and I didn't do badly at all, to be honest. I only played a few games because I arrived a little late, but I have a new perspective on this format.
It's usually quite slow. You can be in several windows at once, go make a coffee, or continue working on the PC if you don't mind. Most of the time we'll be like this while our opponent thinks, even in positions where the game is going on. Determined
I had to play against some low-level players, but in these formats, I think anyone who knows a little about opening and how to attack on the board will cause some problems.
I think the second game was the most popular this time. I was playing against an opponent who is above my rating. That's good for earning some points and raising my rating, even though the game ended in a draw.
And the team? We lost. We fell quite far behind because it was only me who defended the shield, but that happens sometimes. To be honest, rapid formats are better. But I can't say I disliked this session.
