GitPod - Trying Cloud VSCode Instance
I have been dabbling with the VScode cloud options a lot lately. And recently came across cloud service named gitpod. They are not exactly free servcie but they have both option for pay per use and the self install edition.
I tried really hard to push the self install option on the AWS. I failed a lot considering getting it properly working is a pain if it's first time install for you. They do have the images that you can install on AWS and other cloud option. But getting all of that working the first time is not an easy thing. But with few tries and some doc reading you will eventually get there.

If you are working on open source or if you are working for the small business that wants to use the cloud based IDE and use the shared workspace, then you should definitely consider getting VSCode instance on cloud. We had one salesforce instance Builder which was similar but it was only usable under salesforce domain. But it was not possible to sync with the github repository as of now. So we decided to use gitpod for our work and may consider using something else if it does not fit our use case in near future.
Gitpod currently supports the account import and deploy for the github, bitbucket and gitlab. So you pretty much have options if you and your company makes use of them for the git.
Pandemic has kind of forced many offices and the developer companies to use the cloud based workspace like this. I know GitHub already has something like this but they are rolling out paid only access as of now.
Is gitpod a good option for you?
Gitpod has both free and self hosted free plan options in case if you plan on deploying to some cheap VPS instance. I can't say if it's good option for you but give it a shot who knows you may find it getting the work done at your office or for your open source project.
