Aditya L1, India's first mission to sun

ISRO the Indian Space Research Organization is going to launch its first mission to sun. It has been named as 'Aditya L1'.

Aditya is a sanskrit language word which means sun and L1 is actually the point (a designated area in space around SUN) from where this space craft will observe the sun. So, yes its obviously not going to land on the sun (that's anyways not possible). This mission is destined to reach the L1 point between earth and sun from where it can study the sun, continuously without being pulled by gravitational force of sun or earth.

In space terminology lagrangian point or lagrange point is termed as a position where gravitational force of two large bodies precisely equals the centripetal force required for a small object like a space craft or space observatory to move with them. The L1 point is a significant point between earth and sun as it provides uninterrupted regular view of sun without any eclipses.

NASA the American space agency already has a space observatory 'Solar and Heliospheric Observatory Satellite SOHO' at L1 point to study sun. The mission will prove to be another milestone in growing impact and excellence in space missions for ISRO.

The sun keeps erupting immense amount of energy, solar storms and other solar phenomena and the Aditya L1 is aims to study that. Currently there is not much in technology to send missions for stars outside our solar system and hence studying our own star is the only viable option also it will give more insights about the our own solar system and others alike.

There will be total seven payloads onboard the 'Aditya L1' out of which 4 are remote sensing and 3 are in situ payloads.

The mission will be launched today on September 2, 2023 at 11:50 am. I wish ISRO success in this mission and growth in space sector for betterment of humankind. With its recent success stories ISRO has inspired younger generations across the world.
