Did you see the 2005 film ‘Hostel’? Let's come back to that in a second.

What is perception? Perception is the ability to receive and understand information. It's the things we see, hear, smell, taste, and feel. Perception involves both the generation of sensations and the interpretation of those sensations. Perception occurs when our brain takes in the raw information from our senses and organizes it into a meaningful picture. Now that we know what perception is, let's talk about the power the media has on it.

How powerful is the media? How much can it affect our perception of things? We all know that the media can be biased, but just how much can it actually control how we think about things?

In 2005, the movie ‘Hostel’ was released. This movie was about tourists getting murdered while staying in hostels in the Czech Republic. Mind you, the movie is 100% fictional and made up by the director, Eli Roth.

After its release, Slovakia and the Czech Republic saw a massive decline in tourists and had its reputation damaged on a sizable scale. These nations invited the director to an all expenses paid trip to see, that the nations were not crime dens or murder, but peaceful nations. You can read more about this story HERE.
