My Weekend Side Hustles and What They Taught Me
Back in school, money was not always enough. Sometimes I just got tired of asking from home all the time. So, I started doing small side hustles during weekends mostly construction labor work and sometimes catering jobs at parties.
Honestly, I didn’t plan it at first. I just wanted to have something doing that could support me a bit. The first time I joined the construction work, I won't forget how hard it was. It was a hot sunny day that day, I was sweating like never before, it was not easy. My hands got sore from carrying blocks, and at one point I almost said, “I’m not doing again.” But then, when we finished and I got paid, I felt proud. It wasn’t much, but it was mine. It was I could worked and earn for it all by myself
Sometimes I went for catering jobs too helping out at parties, serving food, washing plates, or setting up chairs and tables all because to support my needs. It wasn’t easy either, but it felt lighter and a bit easier than construction. Plus, I met different people, the way people treat me in this kind job are at times discouraging, people laughed a bit, and learned how to deal with all kinds of people.
Hustles has taught me some life lessons . First I learned that hard work really humbles you. You stop looking down on anyone, because you now maybe know and understand what it feels like to sweat for small hard earn money. It also taught me how to manage my time better balancing school, rest, and work wasn’t easy, but I made it work somehow.
Sometimes I came back home tired, my body is heavy and aching, but deep down I was happy. Happy that I didn’t sit around waiting. Happy that I was doing something for myself.
When I remember those days of struggles, I realize those experiences shaped me. They gave me motivation to be discipline, patience, and strength. I may not be where I want to be yet, but I know I’ve come a long way. Those weekend hustles taught me that every effort counts in when you are determined in achieving great goals.
