Digital Archaelology: Codex (Floppy Disk) #2

Continuing to explore the 5.25" floppy disks I found long ago, the second disk in the mystery box looks like more of what was on the first disk. Yes, that's right...more 1980s computer porn. Here's the list of files on the disk:

The READ.ME file more or less explains how everything works:

So if the filenames weren't a big enough clue, then the READ.ME file makes it perfectly clear what kind of material is on this disk.

After starting up DOSBox and typing GSQUIRT, this was the result:

Not exactly classy or even all that erotic. Slightly amusing though. Next up was THRILL. So, was it thrilling? You decide...

Finally, there was a 1986 program called Turbo DiGI Vision Display Utility (Version 1.0). It is some kind of graphics viewer program designed to display DGI files (whatever those are). Here's what comes up if you just run the program:

You can specify a data file on the command line or open one up after the program loads. This disk included one data file that worked with this program - SISTERS.DGI. Opening that file revealed the following:

This is was what the demo mode was like. You could also control the scrolling yourself if you wanted to concentrate on certain parts of the...artwork.

At any rate, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the first two disks were porn. It is what the internet is made of today after all. The good news (or bad depending on your point of view) is that this is the last disk that had explicit imagery. The next post in this series will have something different...
