FOODlog #863: Smoked Salmon & Egg Bagel
Smoked Salmon & Egg Bagel
Cream Cheese and Dill
Smoked Salmon
One of my favorite things to make and prepare is the egg and salmon bagels here at the cafe. They have lots of components to it and although there isn't any hot cooking needed upon serving besides toasting up the bagels, it takes around 6-8 minutes in total just to prepare this dish.
A lot of prep also goes into making the various components needed which is done beforehand such as burnt butter, cream cheese with dill, and a crumble called dukkah which is a middle eastern sort of spice mix made with toasted almonds, cumin, fennel seeds, sesame seeds, and honey.
Here's how it's assembled:
First the bagels are toasted and then the nutty flavored burnt butter is spread on the bagels. Next the cream cheese with dill is piped on and then fresh black pepper is cracked on together with a handful of crisp and fresh spring onions is sprinkled on top.
Soft boiled eggs are arranged and then the dukkah spice mix is sprinkled on top.
Rolled up smoked salmon is next to be arranged on to the bagels and then honey is drizzled on top of everything.
Dried capers are seasoned on the salmon and pickled red onions are randomly placed around everything to brighten up the dish both in flavor and presentation.
Finally fresh dill is placed to on the eggs to decorate the dish and make it even more elegant and beautiful and its ready to be served.
A slice of lemon goes on the plate and plating is done. It's a super delicious dish with lots of thought and work are put into making it so. How many ingredients did you count that goes into making this dish?
