Sable gameplay and first impressions
Not sure about this one 🤨
One of the free PS Plus Essential titles for December 2023 was a unique indie game called Sable. I had never heard of this one, but I've found that I often love a great indie game. I knew I had to give this one a chance.
Sable is a visually stunning indie video game developed by Shedworks and published by Raw Fury. The game stands out for its distinctive, hand-drawn art style, resembling a living graphic novel. Set in an otherworldly open-world desert, Sable follows the journey of its titular character, a young nomad undergoing a rite of passage known as "The Mask-Wearer's Journey." Players are encouraged to explore the vast and serene landscape, discover ancient ruins, interact with enigmatic characters, and unearth the secrets of the world.
The game places a strong emphasis on exploration and personal discovery, allowing players to unravel the narrative at their own pace. The art style, inspired by French artist Moebius, adds a unique and captivating aesthetic to the experience. Sable also features a non-linear narrative, encouraging players to forge their own paths and choose their own quests as they uncover the lore of the world.
Beyond its visuals, Sable boasts a tranquil and atmospheric soundtrack composed by Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast. The combination of evocative music, breathtaking art, and a contemplative pace creates an immersive and meditative gaming experience. Sable has received attention for its artistic ambition and the emotional depth it aims to convey, offering players a unique and memorable journey through a beautifully crafted, otherworldly desert.
The only two things I liked about this game were the graphics and audio. The art style is simple, yet gorgeous. The music has that tranquil vibe and I can see how this game could be meditative to some. For me, it was just boring as hell. I felt like I was walking around an empty desert for way too long. Not something I'd like to spend hours and hours doing, it sounds rather miserable if you ask me.
I gave Sable a shot like I intended to, but I kind of felt like I wasted my time with this one. This is the first indie game I've played in a while that wasn't fun. Tough luck Sable, I'm sure some people will enjoy you.
Thanks for watching and be sure to drop any comments you may have down below, I will get back to everyone.
