I'm finished sleeping on Dying Light 2
Let's parkour through hordes of zombies
Man oh man, have I waited far too long to finally give Dying Light 2 a chance. This game has amazed me in a very short amount of time. I've gotta give a shoutout to for trying to tell me at launch that this game was fantastic. I finally see THE LIGHT!
It's the first week of September 2022, just 7 short months after the initial release of Dying Light 2: Stay Human back on February 4. I was disappointed with Saints Row and am already finished with the game. I was hoping it would hold me over until Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and Overwatch 2 release, but no such luck. I was left wondering which game to play next.
I gave a few games in my library a try and actually had fun with Infamous First Light. For a game that came out all the way back in 2014, it still looks and plays very well. SuckerPunch has got to be one of my favorite development teams, they are also the ones that did Ghost of Tsushima. Too bad First Light was rather short and I finished it in just one evening.
I then played Journey to the Savage Planet for a bit. Although it was a very creative game, I wasn't sure I wanted to spend a ton of time exploring that world. I may come back to it and also have the Bugsnax DLC that I want to play soon.
Currently, I'm waiting for certain new games to release that I have preordered. I wasn't trying to buy any other games at full price right now, but there are several games that I've skipped that were released within the past year or so that I have been wanting to play. I like to use Gamestop as my hub for free games. Let me explain. Any used game you purchase can be returned for a full refund within 7 days. This means you can basically rent games for a week as long as you have a down payment. This is the perfect way for me to test out games that I am not certain about.
I went to two different Gamestop stores in search of the perfect used game. I narrowed it down to three different games. My options were Outriders, Immortals Fenyz Rising, and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Out of the trio, Dying Light piqued my interest the most. I wasn't really trying to get into a third-person looter shooter right now and Immortals is yet another Ubisoft game, which is a formula that I've already said I'm getting tired of. I left the store with Dying Light 2 and was thinking at first that I wasn't going to enjoy it.
The initial 30 minutes or so were not very exciting and I was still trying to get acclimated to the controls. Once I finished the prologue and was released into the open world, that's when I realized that this game was truly something special.
For one, it is absolutely gorgeous and runs extremely well on my PS5. More than anything though, it's just straight up a ton of fun and unlike any other game out there really. Dying Light 2 is a freerunning zombie first-person melee weapon adventure. That's quite the combo, I know. It all works so well together and is paired with an interesting story that makes me not want to skip cutscenes.
I don't have a negative thing to say about this game. If I had to force myself to think of one negative, it would be how tense going out at night in the game is. I mean this game can be pretty scary at times and I found myself running for my life quite often. There is a drastic difference between night and day in this game and I love it. It keeps things from getting boring.
The parkour just feels really great. If you've played Mirror's Edge games or maybe that cyberpunk game Ghostrunner then you know what to expect. It's a hell of a good time and I look forward to playing a lot of this game over the next week. I've I'm not finished by then, I'll still return it and just purchase it digitally the next time it's on sale so that I can game share it with my brother. I haven't tried it yet, but Dying Light 2 also has co-op!
I've got some gameplay for you here in today's video, so enjoy watching that. I will share an even more in-depth perspective of my opinion while playing. So be sure to watch if you want to hear more about how awesome Dying Light 2 is.
Leave any of your comments below and I will be happy to respond when I can. I will make it clear that this post was scheduled to go live just before we leave for our whitewater rafting trip. That means I may not be back on here until late this evening, so bear with me.
