Using Debuffs to Make Battle Easier
Recently I have been testing some new strategies in Splinterlands and one of the ones I liked the most was using Debuffs to my advantage to decrease my opponent's chances of winning the battle.
I will take as an example a battle where I used several debuffs to reduce my opponent's attack and also make him more vulnerable.
Link to Battle
Starting with the battle rules:
There are 3 rules in the battle and they are Lost Legendaries, Holy Protection and Armored Up.
In the Lost Legendaries rule, both players cannot use legendary cards in the battle.
In the Holy Protection rule, all player monsters receive the Divine Shield ability, this ability ignores any damage received 1x.
In the Armored Up rule, player monsters receive +2 shield.
Since the Armored Up rule exists in the battle, I chose the death deck with the summoner Thaddius Brood since he reduces the magic attack and life of my opponent's monsters. The main reason for choosing it was because it reduces magic attack and since there is the Armored Up rule, I imagined that my opponent would use a lot of cards with magic attack since they ignore the shield and directly attack the monsters' health, but he only used 1. Anyway, it was still a useful debuff because it reduced the attack of one of his monsters and also reduced the health of all his monsters by -1.
Now let's move on to the monsters' Debuffs.
The first Debuff comes from the Queen of Crows, a ranged monster that has the Slow and Headwinds debuffs.
- The Slow ability will decrease the speed of all my opponent's monsters by -1.
- The Headwinds ability will decrease the ranged attack of my opponent's ranged monsters by -1.
The second debuff comes from the Cabalist, a monster with magic attack that has the Demoralize debuff.
- The ability Demoralize reduces the melee attack of my opponent's monsters by -1.
The third and final Debuff comes from Scavo Technomander, a monster with a magic attack that has the Rust Debuff.
- The Rust ability will reduce the shield of all my opponent's monsters by -2. This Debuff will be very useful since there is the Armored Up rule in the battle, so my opponent will start the battle without a shield while my monsters will have a shield.
In short, my opponent will start the battle with -1 magic attack, -1 melee attack, -1 ranged attack, -1 health and -2 shield.
It may be a tricky strategy but I'm loving using it since it's fun to see my opponent's monsters doing less damage and being vulnerable.
Even with these debuffs active the battle was not easy to win and if I had fought "fairly" against my opponent then I might have lost this battle.
Strategies are vital in Splinterlands and there are many of them and they will probably be even more so with the arrival of new cards, abilities and rules and that's what I love about the game, it keeps innovating so that you can keep trying new things and use your head.
I just reached the diamond league so I have to change my strategy and start renting max level cards.
