Bus Ride Shenanigans
Hello Hivers; Oh, it’s been a while since I used the term “Hivers,” but it’s a beautiful one. So yeah, it’s my first time here, and I really want to have a great time.
It’s been a while since I went on a bus ride; probably over eight months ago. I’ve always craved a weekend getaway or a vacation, whichever comes first. So this weekend, I decided to travel quite a long distance by bus. It’s definitely not an easy ride, especially in my country.
We encounter so many issues, but maybe we’ve just gotten used to them.
The first thing I did when I got to the bus station was pay for my ticket. I’ve always wished this could be done online because I just want to get into the bus and go. It’s a long process since I had to stand in a queue and wait my turn.
Well, I eventually paid and got into the bus. I don’t practice the ritual of filling out all my details in the logbook before boarding. I just write my name and leave the rest; for personal reasons.
I picked my favorite seat: by the window, right behind the driver.
Now guess what? The bus I boarded was brand new. The seats were still wrapped in nylon, and everything looked sparkling clean. The air conditioning was on, and there was a TV screen too.
People from my country would understand what a big flex that is; because the regular buses we use have long outlived their usefulness, yet their owners refuses to replace them.
I had to bring out my sweatshirt to withstand the cold from the air conditioner. I also made sure to keep my bag with me. I still don’t understand why I need to pay extra for luggage when I’ve already paid for a bus ticket. It just doesn’t make sense. So I held onto my bag and didn’t let them keep it for me.
I boarded the bus at 7:30 a.m., but due to the long wait for passengers and tickets, we eventually left the station at 11:15 a.m.
I got to see places I hadn’t seen in over eight months.
At some point, we got stuck in traffic, and the driver started asking if anyone knew an alternate route. There were so many opinions from passengers, and I got a bit scared. I didn’t want to end up in the middle of nowhere. But then we got a route suggestion from a well-informed passenger who claimed to be a former driver for a well-known transport company.
A woman sat next to me with her baby. They both had henna drawings on, and throughout the ride, the baby kept her hands on mine. I loved it; she was so beautiful and lovely.
I’ll never forget the driver’s speed. He was driving too fast, and some passengers had to complain. Because of the speed, an elderly lady started vomiting when she couldn’t hold in the nausea anymore.
We had to stop the ride, bring her down, and pour cold water on her head. She cleaned up, got back on the bus, and we continued. The driver had no choice but to slow down a bit.
I got calls from friends and family checking if I had arrived safely. Those kinds of calls calm me and it’s comforting to know I have people who care.
I still don’t understand why I can’t sleep during long trips. Some people do it so effortlessly, but I guess everyone’s different.
I arrived at my destination by 4:15 p.m. It was supposed to be a six-hour drive, but thanks to the driver’s speed, we arrived earlier than expected.
I hope to have a great vacation this weekend. Until next time, see ya.
Thanks for engaging on my blog. Its feels beautiful to have you here💕
