Never use SATA to power risers or GPU (w/ video)

This is the first Steemit post of the Cursed Mining YouTube channel. I started to make videos about my mining journey and the transformations my house undergoes on that journey, but I also wanted to branch out and give steemit a try.

The first post is about an important topic in mining which is often overlooked: power distribution. Many people power their risers or GPUs with SATA adapters (or even the cheap adapters many risers come with) and with many cards, this can be a potential fire hazard. Not saying that it will immediately burn down your house, but risers never burn until they do. Here is a video about it including one of my rigs.

The thing is, SATA is only able to carry 54 watts, so if your card draws more power from the PCIE slot, you could run into problems. The graph below can serve as a good starting point for your calculations:

So the point of this first post is to give some info and evidence as well as simply warn others about potential dangers. Also I think the graphs (which the reddit bot likes to spit out, if you know him) are very helpful. All the best to you and happy mining
