My Handball Career 2024/2025 #19: Resume
This week was by no means a normal week for me, as it happened for the worst possible reason (my grandmother passed away in the early hours of Thursday).
As soon as I received the news, I told my coach that I wouldn't train on Thursday, I wanted to be with my mother taking care of the funeral preparations, or on Friday, as it was the day of the funeral ceremony.
My coach and the club understood the situation and even with a very important game this week, a game against CD Feirense where we won by 2 goals and were in 1st place with the possibility of being champions, they didn't put any obstacles in our way.
We were already expecting a full stadium, given that CD Feirense takes a lot of fans to home games, and even more so given the fact that if they won they would be national champions in this game.
At the beginning of the game we started very focused and managed to go 4-0 up, but as expected our opponent did not give up and managed to tie the score during the first half.
However, we remained focused and ended up winning 10-14 at half-time.
In the second half, even more concentrated and focused, we entered and with 19 minutes left in the game we had an advantage of 8 goals.
However, after gaining this advantage we had a period of 8/9 minutes in which we were unable to complete an attack and our opponent managed to reduce the difference to 3 goals, once again putting the issue of the dispute for the national title open, as a victory by less than 2 goals would complicate our accounts.
As a result of a time-out we managed to find ourselves back in the game and always managed to maintain the advantage of 3/4 goals difference.
At the end of the game, both teams ended up celebrating as SL Benfica B lost to Estrela Amadora and meant that we and CD Feirense mathematically ended up achieving promotion.
Leaderboard
With this weekend's victory, we took first place in the standings by storm and are one victory away from the national champion title.
Honestly, we couldn't be in a better position to achieve promotion for two consecutive years and, who knows, win the national championship title for two consecutive years.
Next week we have a game against SL Benfica B at our home where a victory will give us the title of champion.
I would love to see the court full to celebrate another title for the club.
