Peekaboo! We See You! Garden Update
Oh yeah!! We see them alright. Our little seedlings are peeking out! 😃
We went Monday to check on the garden and this is what we saw. Well, at least after doing a little bit of maintenance. Thankfully our friends Mr. and Mrs. B were home to help us distinguish the plants from the weeds.
We have gotten quite a bit of rainfall lately. It’s been great because we haven’t had to water for awhile. When we went to check the plants the soil was still moist so we left it as was.
The thing about all the rainfall is that it has made the weather pretty mild. We noticed our friend’s cool weathered plants are thriving pretty well. We planted mostly hot weathered plants and they are taking a bit longer to play peekaboo with us.
We’re very hopeful though because quite a few of our plants were ready to make an entrance.
Basil is such a pretty herb. As soon as Mrs. B saw it she knew right off what it is was. She’s grown it before and expressed how beautiful they are when in bunches. I look forward to harvesting them.
I remember two years ago when I planted tomato how excited I was to see those yellow flowers blooming. Let’s hope we make it that far this round and are able to see some juicy tomatoes and their beautiful color combinations. I’m excited that we tried the variety seeds because you never know what you’re gonna get.
These chamomile leaves are pretty too. My husband did a quick search online to verify what their leaves look like. It could be pretty easy to mistake them for grass which we almost did. Mrs. B knew it wasn’t grass or a weed so I’m glad she pointed it out to us.
This is only our second year of planting so us newbies need some schooling 😄.
With bell peppers being a hot weathered plant we were happy to see a peek. There weren’t too many of them to meet yet but at least we were able to see that they were starting to grow. I LOVE my peppers. I’m so ready to make some stuffed peppers with my ground turkey mixture. 😋
When we first arrived we saw quite a bit of greenery. We all got super excited because some of the plants were big and fluffy in size.
Mind you, this was before we were woken up to reality that most of what we saw were weeds and grass ☹️. It’s all good though because we are taking in all of this knowledge that are friends are willingly and generously sharing.
It was cool seeing Mr. B sort through his plants as he shared with us how you can tell the difference. He knew many of the weeds right off because they come up with every planting season. He’d say
Oh I know this one.
Then he would immediately grab it from the root and throw it out.
Some of the vine weeds were sneaking their way up and maneuvering through the garden tarp. Those sneaky desperate weeds. 🤨
Here’s a glance of what they looked like…
Once they were removed from our garden it looked bare again but that’s okay. We’re patient to reap the rewards of our labor.
We saw one little worm we had to remove before it caused damaged to our baby plants trying to thrive. 🐛 ❌
While we were weeding, our kiddos were once again enjoying some fresh snacks with their friends.
Guess what they were feasting on this time…
Hmmmm hmmm!! Yummy blackberries!
Mr. B told us right before we arrived he was demolishing one of the bushes. Yep, he was transferring the berries directly to his mouth 🤣. He said he was eating handfuls at a time lol.
When he gave the go to our kiddos to help themselves they couldn’t stop eating them. I can see why because when I tasted one I couldn’t believe how sweet they were. I’ve eaten blackberries straight from a tree before but they never tasted this good 😳.
This is what we saw when we went to check on the kids…
Some “berry” stained hands. 😂🖐🏽
Oh my gosh y’all, they were all covered in berries from their mouth down to their shirts. I couldn’t believe it. They could’ve cared less about their stained hands because they were having a ball. 😆🥹
Being out on their property is really inspiring and motivating for us. Seeing how much our kids never want to leave when we visit is a confirmation that we really need to work hard towards getting the land we desire.
It’s truly amazing being out there in the open field full of fruit trees and bushes, trees to climb and new insects to discover. Sometimes I get emotional thinking about this dream of ours to provide this for our family one day. 🙏🏽
We are truly grateful for this loving family that is allowing us to experience all of this.
That concludes my update!
I hope you enjoyed the photos and stories and had a good laugh with me. I’ll forever cherish these beginner adventures we embark on.
