Gummy Bird

Look! Junior caught a worm!

She had to wake up super early to get it. That's the only time birds can get worms-- when it's early. The rest of the day they simply starve.
It's a hard life.

Late birds never get the worm. When it comes to American English expressions, late birds don't get shit.
Except when it comes to night owls.
Let me tell you about night owls.
In the spring, the night owls gets the bird. The baby bird. The night owl gets the baby bird and shreds it up and guts it and feeds it to the night owl babies. Night owls believe that a dismembered bird in the owlet is worth two in the crow's nest.
That's not a figure of speech.

I don't say these things to foul the nest of the night owl, of course. Babies gotta eat. Sometimes that means babies gotta eat babies.

That's a very nice worm, Junior!! You must be so proud.

She looks happy as a lark, doesn't she. Free as bird. No gilded cage for this fine feathered friend of mine.
So maybe I'm going a little cuckoo with these avian idioms. What can I say? I'm an odd bird.
I'm a good egg, though.
Junior can vouch for that.

Right, Junior?
