Exploring Portugal

Yep. That's a huge glittery mermaid in front of a shopping center in Almada, Portugal. Here's another angle:

I spent the past three weeks in Portugal - starting with Lisbon for two days for a company event, then a weekend in Caparica, and another 10 days in Lagos.

I was living right across the Fenix Hotels in Lisbon, and - believe it or not - our company event was in the exact same location as we were for #steemfest a few years ago. Suspenso. It's like Lisbon only has one event venue :D

I'm planning to visit Portugal a few times this year and potentially get tax residency there. This was just the first of several trips, and I'm happy that I got to see two places (apart from Lisbon), which I can now cross off my list ;)

Caparica was not super amazing, in my view. It doesn't have a digital nomad community (yet), though I heard they did try to build one. It's also off season, so it was pretty quiet there.

Lagos, on the other hand, does have a community, so I spent a little more time there.

The best part about Lagos is its beaches and the sunsets in Porto Mós. All the sunset pictures you see here are from Porto Mós. They look different every day!

On the other side of Lagos, there are a few smaller beaches, enclosed by rocks, which are also beautiful. There are little doorways in the rocks so you can easily pass from one beach through to the other.

Though there are a lot of digital nomads there, it's not as easy to meet them since there's a serious lack of coworking spaces or cafés to work from. And meet up events will probably pick up again only once the season starts.

For surfers or hikers it's worth going here even in the winter, though.

I really like Portugal and I'm looking forward to going back. The food is great, the sea is magic, and the people are nice. Next time I'm planning to travel more north from Lisbon.
