Expedia refuses Bitcoin

Expedia, the largest booking service for flights confirmed the rejection of bitcoin as a means of payment. The service was deactivated on June 10, according to an official spokesperson for the platform. The representative did not give any comments as to the reasons for refusing bitcoin.

Members of the crypto community immediately went to Reddit to express their concerns. Some suggest that they will switch to more crypto-friendly sites like CheapAir, which accepts bitcoin from 2013. Some also note that many employees of the IT sector and the blockchain already receive salaries in bitcoin, and Expedia risks losing business in this client segment.

"Many of us work in the technology sector and receive part of the salary in bitcoins, and for us, it was an excellent opportunity to use Expedia for ticket purchases. I will not use this service anymore, "Reddit user wrote.

Expedia began accepting bitcoin as early as 2014 as part of a partnership with Coinbase. After a sudden shutdown of the service, some started speculating that Expedia is acting in response to Coinbase's freeze of providing business services.

Nevertheless, the social platform Reddit, which refused bitcoin as a means of payment in March due to commissions and problems with integration with Coinbase, is considering the possibility of re-entering crypto payments.
