Blue Moon Rising
Blue Moon Rising — May 30, 2026
Tonight’s full moon is a rare Blue Moon — the second full moon of May — and it’s lighting up the skies over the BC coast in all its luminous glory. Peak fullness technically arrives in the early morning hours of May 31st, but the moon is nearly 100% full as it rises in the east at sunset this evening EarthSky , making tonight the prime night to watch from the west coast.
This is also 2026’s smallest full moon — a micromoon sitting at its farthest point from Earth, roughly 406,000 km away, appearing about 7% dimmer than an average full moon. EarthSky Don’t let that stop you from stepping outside — it rises alongside Antares, the brilliant red heart of Scorpius, making for a striking pairing low in the southern sky. EarthSky
Astrologically, this full moon falls in Sagittarius yahoo — a fitting backdrop for big-picture reflection and a touch of wanderlust. Step outside after dusk, face southeast, and let the Blue Moon have its moment.
