When You Stop Fixing Everything, Things Start Making Sense...

All I remember from that night is how quiet it was. I wasn’t searching for a movie or even for comfort. I was just tired of everything feeling so loud. I picked Locke almost by accident, not knowing that watching one man drive down a highway would feel more honest than most conversations I’ve had lately. He wasn’t running away. He wasn’t screaming. He was just sitting there, answering phone calls, confronting the wreckage of his life with nothing but his voice and a steering wheel. And somehow, that felt closer to what I’ve been living than anything else. Not because I have the same story, but because I know what it’s like to keep moving when you’d rather fall apart.

Being honest with myself used to feel dangerous. Like telling the truth would break everything I was trying to hold together. So I kept adding more structure, more silence, more rituals to cover the noise. I thought if I looked calm on the outside, maybe the inside would follow. But it never did. Watching Locke make one hard decision after another, not to win, not to survive, but just because it was right, reminded me of what I’ve been avoiding. That simplicity doesn’t always mean ease. Sometimes it means choosing the harder road, the one without guarantees or applause. The one that strips away your pride until all that’s left is what you actually believe in.

Chaos used to scare me. I built my life to avoid it. Clean spaces, predictable routines, thoughts kept in boxes I never opened. But minimalism, real minimalism, doesn’t mean absence of mess. It means absence of pretense. Locke didn’t pretend. He didn’t fix everything. He didn’t save his job or repair the damage. He just showed up and said what needed to be said. And I think that’s what I want now. Not control. Not perfection. Just the strength to face what I’ve created, and to keep moving forward without needing it to look good. Without the story needing to make sense.

Forgiveness is a strange thing. I used to think it had to come from other people. That I needed someone to say it was okay for me to finally breathe again. But maybe forgiveness starts with stepping into the driver’s seat and admitting what you’ve done. Not in shame, but in clarity. That’s what I saw in Locke. Not guilt. Not pity. Just the weight of consequences, and the decision to carry them with both hands. Writing this, I don’t feel enlightened. I don’t feel wiser than anyone else. I feel like someone who’s learning how to live without decoration. Without the need to make things sound beautiful. Just true.

Yesterday I threw out an old box I hadn’t touched in years. Inside were papers, souvenirs, fragments of moments that no longer mean anything. I didn’t cry. I didn’t even think. I just knew it was time. Minimalism, for me, isn’t about what I lose. It’s about what I no longer need to hold. Locke didn’t become my hero. He became a mirror. And I realized that maybe all this time I wasn’t afraid of losing. I was afraid of seeing who I really am without the layers. Now I know. And I still want to keep going.
