Kingfisher!
HOQUIAM, Wash. -- Late Thursday afternoon. Playing with my 75-300mm zoom on the riverbank next to Simpson Avenue Bridge, exploring the new perspectives offered by the forced closeup range, I was perfectly prepared for the kingfisher when it lit on a tree branch downriver.
At first, the kingfisher sat calling on the branch in shadow. Then it moved farther downstream and formed a nice silhouette against the sunlit bridge.
I've captured a kingfisher in photos a few times on the river. The last photo in this series is the first time I've captured an in focus shot of one in flight.
