11 Years without Satoshi Nakamoto - a future semi-legendary figure
This week, marked 11 years since the last communication of Satoshi Nakamoto. The anonymous "father" of Bitcoin disappeared from the public sphere and forums without leaving any trace. His final correspondence would occur via email in April 2011 whereas his last Bitcointalk forum post was published some months earlier.
All things taken into perspective, we will never know who was the person or group of people behind the creation of Bitcoin. Certainly, the name itself was a mere nickname. Throughout the years many influential people in the cypherpunk, cryptography, and Bitcoin space have been linked with the Satoshi identity through various theories.
Finding who Satoshi is/was/were is not important. What is important is the idea. Furthermore, one would expect that if the identity of the real Satoshi was conclusive doxxed from the beginning, Bitcoin's and crypto success would not have been guaranteed.
Government agencies and financial institutions could have pressured him from early on and thus sabotaging Bitcoin as a censorship resistant, decentralized peer-to-peer money.
In true Satoshi spirit, the code was meant to be open sourced, and he wasn't looking for a demi-god status. Indeed, he insisted that more credit should be given to the developers who contributed on the Bitcoin code constantly improving it and ensuring the security of the network.
Bitcoin was not about greed and making its founders ultra rich in the form of a new digital ruling class. It can be attested that much from the early mined Bitcoins in wallets associated with Satoshi that have been dormant and never moved since the beginning. Instead, this digital monetary revolution was meant to upend the rules of the game and become a beacon of freedom for people.
In the end, the myth will keep growing as the mystery behind the identity will never be solved. Decades from now, Satoshi will be one of the most recognizable personas in world history and when the last Bitcoin is mined (somewhere in 2100s) he/they will have achieved legendary status.
