Party Vibes with the Downtown Countdown

I finally got my entry done for Allyson’s Downtown Countdown Doodle challenge. I used my original character to depict the "party favors" prompt, and even though it is a bit of a chaotic mess, I think the energy is there. The 2026 glasses are a little bit wonky and don't sit perfectly on the face, but they definitely give off that New Year vibe I was going for.

The pose is a bit stiff I know and the arms look a little awkward reaching out that is what my doodles are like. I also just let the party favors like the horn and the candy float around to give it a bit of a cluttered and random effect. It actually makes the scene feel busy and fun no need for symmetry for this kind of energy. I decided to use this grainy texture for the sweater and the fur because I wanted a softer look, even if it’s not super detailed.

I know it’s not a masterpiece but I’m just happy I actually finished a prompt for the Draw a Day community. It’s all about the progress, right?

Speaking of the process, the sketch above is my jump off point. It is inspired by my original character from last year the squirrel or whatever it looked like back then. I am going for a mood that is celebratory hence the raised arms and legs positioned to look like dancing.

This is the final line drawing of the character. The eyes took a bit of time for me to get that calm and friendly vibe. The sweater and the culottes are also quite challenging to draw, a slight change on one single like can throw off the look of the image.

For the colors I am leaning towards subdued and calm palette

Now the party favors. The horn is from a real horn we used last NYE celebration that thing on the bottom is like a pump that produces the sound no need to blow it with air. In the middle I drew a pair of glasses that shows the year 2026 and the rest are confetti and candies similar to the ones we scattered for the kids on NYE.
