Hasta el soñador más necio
se desengaña de los hombres

Hasta el soñador más tenaz
con sorna toma las promesas de libertad

Hasta el soñador más animoso
sucumbe al pesar, cuando siente
la puñalada de la contradicción

Hasta el soñador más integro
se indigna con los burdos prodigios
de aspirantes a santos.

English Version

Even the most foolish dreamer
becomes disillusioned with men.

Even the most tenacious dreamer
takes promises of freedom with scorn.

Even the most spirited dreamer
succumbs to sorrow, upon feeling
the stab of contradiction.

Even the most upright dreamer
grows indignant at the crude marvels
of would-be saints.
