Spanish Pyrenees

A beautiful sunset above The Ordesa National Park and The Monte Perdido in #Spain. The park is the UNESCO World Heritage and sometimes is named as Europe’s Grand Canyon. There are many trails in the park but I chose to do what is called “Faja de Pelay”, a spectacular 22 km long circular path on the southern cliffs of the valley. It is an incredibly beautiful trail with bird-eye vistas overlooking towering summits. The scenery is dominated by a series of three-thousand-meter peaks, including the 3355-meter "Monte Perdido/Lost Peak" (the third highest peak in the Pyrenees). Because the hike takes around 7-8 hours overall I experienced a change of light over the course of the day. The shadows on the cliffs shifted, the light in the forest changed, and along with it the mood shifted, adding a different texture to sights. Frankly, there is no way to capture with photos the peculiar sensation you feel in this enclosed, elevated valley. It is incredible, beautiful, surreal and gorgeous. By the end, my feet were killing me, but my eyes would have kept my body there all day. The only question which remains a mystery in my mind is how the hell Hannibal with his army and elephants could cross the Pyrenees in 218 BC starting his invasion of Roman Empire. Unbelievable.
