A Life-Long Punishment!!!
As if this topic couldn’t come at a better time. In my country, the trending story right now is about a convicted felon who was only recently released from prison. And his crime? Raping a minor! He was released from prison last year, and this month, we were treated to pictures of him and a woman celebrating a baby bump! Yeah, she was pregnant for him! But then, know this, she also has a daughter who is the same age as his previous victim when he did the horrific thing to her.
Now, you might assume that she didn’t know of his past, which was why she was willing to have a child with him. But that would be incorrect because this man’s case has always been widely publicized. When he was caught, it was a trending topic; when he was sentenced, it still trended. And when he was released last year, the blogs carried it! People like me, who didn’t know him before his crime, got our first impression of him as a rapist. So, there’s no way at all she couldn’t have known. So maybe she believes that he’s now better and she’s willing to trust the safety of her daughter and unborn baby with him. Who knows?
Sex crimes have to be one of the worst things that can happen to a woman, let alone a child. Just being catcalled on the street or approached by random strangers just because they’re women, these leave many with trauma. Not to talk of the actual rape. It’s a terrible act that should never be forgiven, no matter how much the culprit has learned his lesson. And with kids, kids that don’t know their right from left, kids that can’t tell friends from foes… no! It’s just unacceptable!
In developed countries, sex offenders go on a list, and once your name is there, it’s hard to get it off. If your victim was a child, then you won’t ever be allowed near children again. You won’t go near schools, playgrounds, or anywhere there will be children. Even if you gave your life to Christ while in prison, you won’t be allowed into the church because children will be there. That’s how bad life is for them. And for good reason.
Now, I guess you can see where I’m going with this. No pedo should be allowed to get close to any child. Father, brother, nephew, whatever relationship they have, they should never have that. I know they could have changed. I believe they could be trying to get better. But victims of rape pay for that act for the rest of their lives, so why should pedos not get that same treatment? Besides, the children in their vicinity should be protected; I don’t think their innocence should be put at risk on a case of woulda-coulda. It’s just best to make sure that the possible threat doesn’t come close.
Least of all in their own home. Where they should be safest. Omo, it’s sad that we even have to talk about things like this, but just as I mentioned yesterday and with the story I started with, there will always be people who don’t really care. It won’t matter that their partner raped a child; they would still stay with him and raise a family with him.
Truly, we have saboteurs.
