I took these shots of Hadrian's Gate, also known as the Arch of Hadrian, while visiting Athens in March 2018. Not only was it my first trip to Greece, but it was my first trip to Europe. To say that I was excited to be in this ancient country would be an understatement.

We stayed near Syntagma Square, and it was an easy walk down Leoforas Vasillissis Amalias to the Arch. Standing at the edge of the National Gardens, the Temple of Zeus looms behind it, stealing, perhaps, most of the attention from the many tourists who visit here.

This tourist, however, was struck by the mysterious green glow of accent lighting and the piercing white light reflecting off of the underside of the Arch. It seemed to breathe modern life into this 2000-year-old monument.

The Arch of Hadrian was built as a monument to welcome the visiting Hadrian, Emperor of Rome. Commissioned around 131 AD, the Arch is made from Pentelic marble, sourced 18 kilometers away from Mt. Pentelikon.

I'm not a professional photographer. I wouldn't even call myself an amateur photographer. But these photos are some of my favorite trip pictures from Greece.
