BBC covers Liberland

The BBC - the British state broadcasting company - has an article about Liberland on it's website. Liberland is a libertarian new country project on the border between Serbia and Croatia.

 Liberland is only 7 sq km (2.5 sq miles) of uninhabited marshland. But in the mind of Vit Jedlicka, its first president, it's the fulfilment of the libertarian dream - a land with no compulsory taxes, no gun control, with Bitcoins as currency. 

The article details Jedlicka's disputes with the state authorities and how the author of the article, and presenter of a BBC radio programme about Liberland to be broadcast this evening (20:00 GMT, Monday 14th November) discovered that a member of the Liberland government had fabricated his CV, and caused his resignation.

Liberland is the latest in a long line of would be libertarian new countries. I do not expect that it will be any more successful than any that have gone before it. Moreover, I think these ventures waste a lot of time, money and effort which could be better spent in furthering the libertarian cause. They also make libertarians seem eccentric and detached from reality - like fantasists and hobbyists who declare their bedrooms to be independent countries.
