Working with Fragments

Sometimes I write from real life, sometimes I don’t.

This past week, a number of one-liners, incomplete phrases, and images floated into my mind and wouldn’t leave until I had found a way to turn them into poems.

Without further ado, here they are.

(1)

praying mantis
dancing on a pink cosmos
our evening dinner show

(2)

rolling thunder
in the other room
a family argument

(3)

beams of sunlight
between the cedar trees
a cobweb glistens

(4)

the blue hour
coming home to
an empty nest

(5)

a foreign postmark
the distance between
two hearts

(6)

parting
I feel a subtle change
in the wind

(7)

behind the geese
the migration begins
driving to Florida

As always, thank you for reading.
