HAProxy is a load balancer which was traditionally used for HTTP aka web load balancing. Now, they have extended the capabilities to support application delivery as well. With support HTTP/2, Plugins, Fast binary encoded gRPC etc the latest version HAProxy 2.0, its even better in the cloud-native era.

In addition to the load balancing, SSL termination, comperssion of the HTTP stream, routing of the HTTP traffic based on location, devices etc can also be handled by the HAProxy application.

Load blancing also support session stickiness which is applicatible to connections and cookies. Routing to locations based on various conditions is another essential feature HAproxu can support. This means, we can direct the end users to the closest servers.

There might be scenarios which will need custom access to the HTTP stream. LUA scripting is supported by HAProxy for this very type of needs.
