Three Tune Tuesday: Playing For Change

I visited a very spry 96 year old relative the other day. She spent a number of years living around the world, and collecting a vast array of artistry from locals that adorn almost every inch of the walls in her house.

While catching up, I noted a unique program she was streaming on her television called Song Around The World, the front end for Playing For Change, a B Corporation that has existed for over 20 years. The site and organization's goal is to inspire and connect the world through music, believing that it's a medium for breaking down boundaries between world cultures.

I believe strongly in that message. News organizations rightfully report on the things they feel matter to their constituents. However, the number of actual credible news sources from which to build that content continues to dwindle, offset by the messengers that have other motives or do not research adequately.

By connecting people directly with people, and musicians with musicians, we can strip away all of that to express our genuine selves. I say generally because there are still limitations in technological access and ability for everyone to contribute, but it's a great step forward.

Some of the musicians that have appeared are world-famous names. Some are local stars, and some are merely talents that want to spread the loving message to others. You can find the list of registered artists here:

Today, I'd like to highlight three tunes from the website https://playingforchange.com

The first features Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, and Keb' Mo' singing Sly and the Family Stone's Everyday People:

The second features one of my favorite songs to sing along to when I need a bit of inspiration: Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground.

The third and final selection is a beautiful array of percussion and rhythm performing Nirvana's Come As You Are:

Everyone has a song in them, complex and simple in its meaning to our lives. Hearing voices around the world jin in on it reminds me that, in the end, our needs and desires are very similar and heavily connected.
