Tim Pool and Michael Malice on Decentralized Media

Tim Pool had Michael Malice on his show. Around minute 34 they get to talking about decentralized media and how subscription models on blockchains can help to break free of censorship.

Timcast IRL w/Michael Malice - time stamp: minute 34

Tim is currently thinking about creating an open source solution that enables creators to host their content and monetize it via subscriptions on their own server via a simple Wordpress plug-in.

This step gets rid of large media and social media companies controlling the narrative. It still leaves one giant attack vector open: payment processors.
Many independent media creators receive part of their funding via Patreon subscriptions. Patreon itself relies on payment processors to route payments for them.

Tim's plug-in idea helps insofar as payment processors can now only block a uniqe creator at a time from receiving funds, and not hold 10s of thousands of creators on a single platform as a bargaining chip.

Tim and Michael are both aware that the logical second step is decentralizing those subscription payments via blockchains to get rid of even more gatekeepers.

Gears are spinning, wheels are turning. Let's see in what direction he goes. Tim might be further along than he lets on.
