Saying GOODBYE to the Camper for Season

This is my last weekend at the camper for the season... and much like the Tomato above, it is time to pack it in, and call it a successful season.

Above: The full Garden had 9 Fabric GrowBags. Almost as soon as I planted, the local 'friends' (Chipmunks and Squirrels) at two full bags. 6 left contained Tomato, and one, Cucumber( the Cuke grow bag is missing above)

In the tomato bags, I planted 7 plants: 1 White Cherry, 1 Yellow Pear, 1 Blueberry Cherry, 1 Sweetie Cherry, 1 Jubilee, 1 Tigerella, 1 Ukrainian Plum.. In addition, I planted some Basil in a couple of the Tomato bags, and 2 Cucumber in one: Spacemaster 80 and Muncher.

Above, a typical daily harvest, in fall. During the peak, this garden with 7 tomato, and a cucumber, easily outproduced the big garden back home wiht multiple times the number of plants.

I would say, easily, the high heat back home, plus severe drought contributed to the low yield. The garden at the camper has some mid day shade plus on average slightly cooler daytime temps and cool evenings. That clearly helps.

Planning ahead, I am going to need to adjust the types and varieties I plant at the camper garden to take into account the maritime climate, cooler weather and more shade. In addition, given that climate has changed, I will also need to take into account more heat hardy plants and more drought tolerant, to plant in my main garden.

How are you and your garden affected by the changes in environment?

ONE reason I have my own garden, is to grow food locally, rather than paying for a truck, a boat, a train, to deliver food to a market that I then need to go to. It's not only to control my own food supply, or to grow healthier food, it's also about LOCAL sourcing.
