Breakthrough Discovery: Ageing of human cells reversed!

That is right, not just experiments on mice. Confirmed on Human Cells!

Also not just the appearance or functions. Not a slow down of ageing, but a real reversal of an age of a human cell!

Old cells that stopped their natural growth cycle started to divide again, started to look like younger cells, regained features that they had as youth cells and most importantly their telomeres - became longer. 

This has never been achieved before. Nobody on Earth was previously able to stop the shortening of telomeres, let alone regrow them. All previous attempts making only the "appearance" younger. This one indeed reversed the core process of ageing.

Telomeres are caps on the ends of the chromosomes that shorten as we age. The cell lives only as long as Telomeres still have some length left. When Telomeres are worn out, the cells stop dividing and dies. When our cells die faster than the new ones are born, we age and eventually die.

The research was conducted by researchers at the University of Exeter and University of Brighton and reported by Dr. Eva Latorre.

Now very interesting questions raise about Earth, Humanity, Morals, Ethics and a lot more.

Fist of all, do not hold your breath. Most likely neither one of those who read this will ever be able to use it in our lifetime. Not because the technology will not be available but because my bet is only the richest chosen ones will be able to benefit for a long time. As soon as this discovery becomes much closer to the real every-day people use, someone will patent it and someone else will buy the patent, all the rights to it together with the lives of anybody who holds the key to it. Or someone will die in an "accident" or ruled out to pass away due to "natural causes"

Second, if I am totally wrong about who and why would prevent this technology from going public I think that there will be enough sources who will see that as a disaster for our planet. Everybody is already talking about overpopulation, over-consumption, shortage of planet's resources, climate change and so on. Add collapsing pension funds all over the world. Now imagine the population double but half of it represented by 200 year old people? This will mean a social collapse if the system remains the way it is now (social security, medical care, real estate and so on).

Wile cheering for science it brings so many questions and concerns the moment it is discovered. Either way, don't worry we, the lay people, will probably never see it anyway.
