First July Update

We have been blessed in our area with some of the purest air due to the lack of industry in this rural part of central Portugal.
this though, plays a negative role when it comes to plants in the Summer months.
to be more precise, between mid May and the end of August, we observe very high levels of solar radiation.
while most plants, local and well established show no signs of damage whatsoever, some others can suffer a great deal and even die due to its effects.
it only takes one clear sunny day with peaking radiation levels to observe signs and damage.
following are just a few examples from this last week.

Honeyberry (Lonicera caerulea).

A Pecan.

damaged leaves can not recover. they are damaged beyond repair and will be eventually replaced by new leaves which means a substantial reduced growth rate once damaged.
