Glaucoma Week Outreach at Twedie

This year's glaucoma week was scheduled for the 8th to the 14th of March and the theme was Beat invisible Glaucoma. Beat Inivisble Glaucoma because as the silent thief of sight it creeps on you without any notice until is too late, in other word the disease is virtually invisible to patient who may have it because they won't know.

So as part of our activities in commemorating this day we visited Atwima Twedie a rural area in the awtima kwanwoma district within the Kumasi Metropolis to educate its locals on glaucoma and the need to seek regular eye care from the optometrist or ophthalmologist since these are the only ways to detect the disease early and hopefully prevent complete blindness.

We also held free eye screening exercise for them with the main focus been on Glaucoma; however, it presented the opportunity to see the the other ocular conditions people presented with. In addition to this we also provide free readers and medication for those that needed it. For cases that demanded further probing they were referred to the nearest eye care facility to be treated.

The program lasted from 9am till 3pm and aaw tothe ocular health of over 100 participants. Another was held in the neighboring of which a report will be given soon
