---------- English Version -----------
I was once on a technical visit to a family's house whose computer wouldn't boot Windows XP. Back in the days of my early days as a technician, when IT people were seen as magicians or something, especially the elderly. A couple of grandparents were watching me open the CPU.
It was a basic white/beige CPU that turned on but didn't send a signal to the monitor. While I was looking inside the CPU, the man asked me, "Young man, is the computer okay? Can it be fixed?" I told him it probably yes and that I was going to check the components. As was my rule, if the power supply works, I would clean the RAM modules.
So I removed the first RAM module from the slot, opened my backpack, took out a white eraser, one of those pencil erasers, and started rubbing the memory contacts or pins until they were shiny gold again, and I put the module back in place.
As I removed the other module and just when passing the eraser, the Man exclaimed, "Thats it young man! That's how it's going to work!" And I was a little surprised, thinking, "How does he know about this?" But I just looked at him in, and continued listening: "A friend did tell me in the morning.. that erasing the memory would fix this thing!"...
I didn't know how to hold back my laughter... tears were coming out of my eyes... but I held it, with a Jim Carey-like grimace. And since the computer did turn on, I didn't want to break the gentleman's heart by correcting him right then and there.
Then, i called his grandson and told him that it was the dirty memory.
When I left, couldn't stop laughing the whole day. In fact, every time I do the memory clean procedure, I remember Mr. Memory and it makes my day.
