The Democratic Dictator

I'm not particularly impressed by anything my President does, and that's putting it lightly. I think he isn't fit to rule and every two hours, I think about the fact that this guy represents me Internationally, and a part of me dies. I haven't met him face to face, nor had the opportunity to communicate with him. Neither has anyone outside his circle for that matter, and it makes me wonder.

It is ridiculous, to say the least, that a man in charge of a country like Nigeria with all our problems has chosen to make himself inaccessible and distant from the populace. It is something that fucks with my mind daily, and I find to be completely ridiculous.

The issue that pervades my mind sometimes and one that most people will not even believe is how a President will rule a country for 5 years without holding a press conference. It doesn't make any sense, and it is absurd to say the least. I don't know anything about the President's plans, and all we have to go with are his lifeless/zombie-esque speeches where he reads a script.

With that said, I've come to terms with the fact that despite being elected through a democratic process, the president of Nigeria is in fact a dictator who doesn't answer to anyone but himself. For the outside world, it may come as a surprise, but the reality is that this man was previously a military dictator, so his actions aren't new. Leopards don't change their spots after all.

I had a conversation with my friend who's a lawyer, and he explained that denouncing my president as my president can be twisted to mean treason. I'd rather continue breathing, so I'll just say that I'm ashamed of this man and I hold my head in shame virtually every time I see him.
