Time vs. Focus

This week, I heard the phrase ‘We don't have time for that!’ again in the office because another delivery date for our software is coming up. But is that really the case? Philosophically speaking, time comes, is there, passes and starts all over again. In my more than 30 years of professional experience, there has always been a time after that - in other words, there has always been time after that. Is time really our problem? At work and in life? Perhaps we should recalibrate our compass and replace time with focus.
‘You don't need more time, you need more focus’
means that the real problem is not that you don't have enough time, but that you need more focus. It suggests that the time you have is sufficient if you use it more purposefully and efficiently by focussing your attention and energy on the essentials. In short, it's less about quantity (more time) and more about quality (more focus).

Diese Woche hörte ich im Büro wieder den Satz: „Dafür haben wir keine Zeit!“, weil wieder ein Liefertermin für unsere Software ansteht. Aber ist das wirklich so? Philosophisch gesehen kommt die Zeit, ist da, vergeht und beginnt wieder von vorne. In meiner mehr als 30-jährigen Berufserfahrung gab es immer eine Zeit danach - also es kam immer Zeit nach. Ist Zeit wirklich unser Problem? Im Beruf wie im Leben? Vielleicht sollten wir unseren Kompass neu kalibrieren und *Zeit durch Fokus ersetzen.
"Du benötigst nicht mehr Zeit, du benötigst mehr Fokus"
bedeutet, dass das eigentliche Problem nicht darin besteht, dass man nicht genug Zeit hat, sondern dass man sich besser konzentrieren muss. Es wird suggeriert, dass die zur Verfügung stehende Zeit ausreicht, wenn man sie zielgerichteter und effizienter nutzt, indem man seine Aufmerksamkeit und Energie auf das Wesentliche konzentriert. Kurz gesagt: Es geht weniger um Quantität (mehr Zeit) als um Qualität (mehr Fokus).
